Working at Height
Falls from height are the major cause of death within the construction industry. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury. They place duties on employers, the self-employed, and any person who controls the work of others to the extent they control the work.
An overriding principle is to do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anyone falling. The presentation will cover all aspects of safety when working at heights, setting out the simple hierarchy for managing and selecting equipment for work at height and outlining some of the fundamental measures required for a safe system of work. view conference

Noise Management Best Practice
The new Control of Noise at Work regulations not only change the Action Values significantly, but also introduce a very substantial shift in the approach that employers must take. This presentation provides a pragmatic guide (with case studies) to the changes in best practice in assessment, PPE and noise control – and where the latter can be made self-financing. view conference

Industrial Accident Investigation: The Problems with Causal Analysis and the Classification and Remediation of ‘Unsafe Acts’.
Amongst other things, the Institute furthers the development and professional standing of Lead Investigators; the principle output of whom is the identification and logical verification of cause and the recommendation of measurable intervention strategies.
Following defensible processes, ‘unsafe acts’ continue to predominate as the significant factors in many accidents; however, employers are often unfamiliar with their proper analysis, classification and remediation and default to the remedy of an associated regulatory breach.
Analysing human error is essential and this session considers the classification of ‘unsafe acts’ and the remedial implementation issues that can prevent organisations from benefiting from their identification as cause. view conference

Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE) what does CE marking actually mean.
All garments worn in the workplace for Personal Protection whether for Rain and Foul Weather Protection, plus High Visibility, or other physical protection eg Heat and flame should carry CE marks and reference to particular test methods.
This workshop will help you understand what these Norms mean discussing the level of performance and protection provided but what the differences are. After this workshop you will be able to make an informed choice about the level of performance you need. The session will enable you to understand the difference in performance of different garments that you wear to keep you dry and will show you, for example, the differences that a performance foul weather rain jacket can make to your working day. The workshop will also discuss the importance and benefits of windchill protection offered by a new range of clothing for use in the work environment. view conference
