What is professionalism? Some tips on success.
S1B 11.20-12.05 Dr Keith Whitehead, Senior Environmental Advisor, British Safety Council Climate Change and Business Resilience The presentation will provide an overview of business responses to the actual and potential impacts of climate change. Proactive companies are looking to predict how climate change and associated wide ranging weather patterns will affect their businesses and what can be done to adapt to and mitigate these impacts. Business now have to think how they can ‘climate proof’ their operations, infrastructure and assess supply chain break downs and consider the overall economic cost such impacts can inflict on a company. In this presentation Dr Keith Whitehead will also describe how climate change could potentially affect business operations in both the short and long term.

S1C 12.50-13.35 Neil Budworth, Corporate Health and Safety Manager - E.ON UK Designing and Delivering High Impact Health and Safety Communication Campaigns The presentation explores the theory behind communication design, some different approaches to communicating about a particular issue and then finishes with real examples from safety and health and well being.

S1D 14.20-15.05 Kevin Bridges, Partner and Regulatory Lawyer, Pinsent Masons Health and Safety – Looking Back at the Last Year; Landmark Judgments. This session will explore some of the significant cases in the last 12 months and consider their impact both in terms of how prosecutions in future might be defended and also what they mean for the safety professional in the context of risk management (Baker v Quantum Clothing Group Ltd & Ors [2011]; R v Tangerine Confectionery Limited & R v Veolia ES (UK) Limited).  Kevin will also look at the consequences ofR v Marks & Spencer plcand othersand some of the recent cases successfully prosecuted by Fire Authorities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 including the Court of Appeal decision inR (Nottinghamshire & City of Nottingham Fire & Rescue Service) v Liu and O’Rourke
