BSC SEMINAR PROGRAMME

09:45 10:15

Samantha Kee : Kee Anatomy Consultancy

Good Health and Well-Being in the Workplace = Good Business.

A look at the health and cost benefits of involving the workforce in the prevention and management of MSDs in the workplace. Through Sid the skeleton, we will discuss three scenarios of how management can design a working environment that allows an 18-year old apprentice, a 63-year man who is about to retire, and a 4.11' lady to work safely. If industry is going to effectively manage the impact of MSDs on their business, the workforce has to play an integral role in the design and development of health and safety working practices

09:45 10:15

Mark Tyler: Partner, Shook, Hardy & Bacon International LLP

Health and Safety Law Update

An examination of progress with the reforms proposed by Lord Young and curbing the compensation culture together with an assessment of the current enforcement climate, including the latest developments with Corporate Manslaughter and personal liabilities of directors and employees. Also guidance on dealing with accident investigations and PACE interviews.

12:45 13:30

Sarah Cudmore: Cudmore Consulting

Behavioural Safety

An overview of what is meant by culture and what this means in practical terms; how an organisation's culture affects the behaviours of people in it; then how you can start thinking where you are in terms of culture and what you need to change, why, and the expected outcomes of changing it. The approach fits well with the ISO management process. The information in the seminar is presented in 'plain English', removing a lot of the mystique and jargon around safety culture and behavioural safety. It is a pragmatic way to view, assess and approach organisational changes
