Working with Construction Dust To raise awareness of the health hazards associated with exposure to Silica dust and the importance of proper control measures with a focus upon the selection and use of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).
S2E 10.35 - 11.05 Simon Field, 3M Technical Service Use of PPE in the metal fabrication industry Simon will discuss some of the hazards found in metal working industries and the health effects they can cause, including:
Eye hazards � mechanical hazards from grinding and cutting operations and radiation/light hazards during welding.
Respiratory hazards � dust and gas hazards found in the industry including metal fume.
Noise hazards � many metal fabrication operations are capable of generating harmful levels of noise.
The presentation will then cover the types of Personal Protective Equipment that are often used to mitigate risk in metal fabrication industries and consider aspects of selection and correct use.

This presentation examines: European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP); Your legal responsibilities and the need to adjust your management approach to COSHH in accordance with the GHS.

S2G 14.20 - 14.50 Elaina Harvey, UK Thermal Specialist for Nomex� & Western Europe Electric Arc End User Specialist: Dupont Personal Protection How to Assess Electric Arc Hazards and Protect Workers The DuPont "4 P� approach to understanding and managing electrical arc hazards will be summarized (Predict, Prevent, Protect and Publish). Where the risk cannot be controlled by prevention or where there is a residual risk of injury then it may be necessary to consider Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent injury to the worker. Within the Protect section, the new arc flash standards IEC 61482-2, EN 61482-1-1 and EN 61482-1-2 will be highlighted together with a lightweight, comfortable European layering approach to ensure that the worker is not restricted from cumbersome clothing.
