�Reductions in occupational disease in construction have not kept pace with improvements in safety management in the industry. It is estimated that approximately 100 times as many people lose their lives from ill-health caused by working in construction compared to fatal accidents. HSE are encouraging the industry to do more to �Think health� and working in partnership with many to achieve this.�

S1G 14:05 � 14:35 Elaina Harvey, UK Thermal Specialist for Nomex� & Western Europe Electric Arc End User Specialist: Dupont Personal Protection How to Assess Electric Arc Hazards and Protect Workers The DuPont "4 P� approach to understanding and managing electrical arc hazards will be summarised (Predict, Prevent, Protect and Publish). Where the risk cannot be controlled by prevention or where there is a residual risk of injury then it may be necessary to consider Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent injury to the worker. Within the Protect section, the new arc flash standards IEC 61482-2, EN 61482-1-1 and EN 61482-1-2 will be highlighted together with a lightweight, comfortable European layering approach to ensure that the worker is not restricted from cumbersome clothing.

There are now more areas to consider, more industries that might have confined spaces and more emphasis on tasks that create a hazardous area that might be a confined space. Similarly, there is greater clarity on what isn�t a confined space and, mixed in with guidance on training and equipment inspection, there�s plenty to talk about.
